Momentos de Poesia - Miguel de Unamuno

Poema Al Amor De La Lumbre

Dulcissime vanus Homems
Al amor de la lumbre cuya llama
como una cresta de la mar ondea.
Se oye fuera la lluvia que gotea
sobre los chopos. Previsora el ama
supo ordenar se me temple la cama
con sahumerio. En tanto la Odisea
montes y valles de mi pecho orea
de sus ficciones con la rica trama
preparándome el sueño. Del castaño
que más de cien generaciones de hoja
criara y vio morir, cabe el escaño
abrasándose el tronco con su roja
brasa me reconforta. ¡Dulce engaño
la ballesta de mi inquietud afloja!

Momentos de Poesia - Teixeira de Pascoaes

A Mãe e o Filho

Teu sêr tragicamente enternecido,
Em desespero de alma transformado,
Vae através do espaço escurecido
E pousa no seu tumulo sagrado.

E ele acorda, sentindo-o; e, comovido,

Destes anos de vida que passaram;
Nos meus versos ficaram
Imagens que são máscaras anónimas
Do teu rosto proibido;
A fome insatisfeita que senti
Era de ti,
Fome do instinto que não foi ouvido.

Agora retrocedo, leio os versos,
Conto as desilusões no rol do coração,
Recordo o pesadelo dos desejos,
Olho o deserto humano desolado,
E pergunto porquê, por que razão
Nas dunas do teu peito o vento passa
Sem tropeçar na graça
Do mais leve sinal da minha mão...

Momentos de Poesia - Tu Fu

Restless Night

As bamboo chill drifts into the bedroom,
Moonlight fills every corner of our
Garden. Heavy dew beads and trickles.
Stars suddenly there, sparse, next aren't.

Fireflies in dark flight flash. Waking
Waterbirds begin calling, one to another.
All things caught between shield and sword,
All grief empty, the clear night passes.

Momentos de Poesia - Mechtild of Magdeburg

I cannot Dance

I cannot dance, Lord, unless you lead me.
If you want me to leap with abandon,
You must intone the song.
Then I shall leap into love,
From love into knowledge,
From knowledge into enjoyment,
And from enjoyment beyond all human sensations.
There I want to remain, yet want also to circle higher still.

Momentos de Poesia - Mário de Sá-Carneiro

Fim

A Benediction

The mother's heart, the hero's will,
The sweetness of the southern breeze,
The sacred charm and strength that dwell
On Aryan altars, flaming, free;
All these be yours, and many more
No ancient soul could dream before --B
e thou to India's future son
The mistress, servant, friend in one.

Momentos de Poesia - Maya Angelou

A Conceit

Give me your hand
Make room for me
to lead and follow
you
beyond this rage of poetry.

Let others have
the privacy of
touching words
and love of loss
of love.

For me
Give me your hand.

Momentos de Poesia - António Nobre

A Poezia do Outomno

Noitinha.

O chale pedem a quem vae passando...
E nos seus leitos nupciaes, os ninhos,
As lavandiscas noivam piando, piando!

E o orvalho cae... E, á falta d'agoa, rega
O val sem fruto, a terra arida e nua!
E o Padre-Oceano, lá de longe, prega
O seu Sermão de Lagrymas, á Lua!

Tardes de outomno! ó tardes de novena!
Outubro! Mez de Maio, na lareira!
Tardes...
Lá vem a Lua, gratiae plena,
Do convento dos céus, a eterna freira!

Momentos de Poesia - J. R. R. Tolkien

The Road Goes Ever On

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet,
And whither then? I cannot say.

Momentos de Poesia - Gabriela Mistral

I am Not Alone

The night, it is deserted
from the mountains to the sea.
But I, the one who rocks you,
I am not alone!

The sky, it is deserted
for the moon falls to the sea.
But I, the one who holds you,
I am not alone!

The world, it is deserted.
All flesh is sad you see.
But I, the one who hugs you,
I am not alone!

Essas coisas todas —
Essas e o que falta nelas eternamente —;

Between Going And Coming

Between going and staying the day wavers,
in love with its own transparency.
The circular afternoon is now a bay
where the world in stillness rocks.

All is visible and all elusive,
all is near and can't be touched.

Paper, book, pencil, glass,
rest in the shade of their names.

Time throbbing in my temples repeats
the same unchanging syllable of blood.

The light turns the indifferent wall
into a ghostly theater of reflections.

I find myself in the middle of an eye,
watching myself in its blank stare.

The moment scatters. Motionless,
I stay and go: I am a pause.

Momentos de Poesia - T.S.Eliot

Stand on the highest Pavement

Stand on the highest pavement of the stair--
Lean on a garden urn--
Weave, weave the sunlight in your hair--
Clasp your flowers to you with a pained surprise--
Fling them to the ground and turn
With a fugitive resentment in your eyes:
But weave, weave the sunlight in your hair.

So I would have had him leave,
So I would have had her stand and grieve,
So he would have left
As the soul leaves the body torn and bruised,
As the mind deserts the body it has used.
I should find
Some way incomparably light and deft,
Some way we both should understand,
Simple and faithless as a smile and shake of the hand.

She turned away, but with the autumn weather
Compelled my imagination many days,
Many days and many hours:
Her hair over her arms and her arms full of flowers.
And I wonder how they should have been together!
I should have lost a gesture and a pose.
Sometimes these cogitations still amaze
The troubled midnight and the noon's repose.

Momentos de Poesia - Margaret Atwood

The Rest

The rest of us watch from beyond the fence
as the woman moves with her jagged stride
into her pain as if into a slow race.
We see her body in motion
but hear no sounds, or we hear
sounds but no language; or we know
it is not a language we know
yet. We can see her clearly
but for her it is running in black smoke.
The cluster of cells in her swelling
like porridge boiling, and bursting,
like grapes, we think. Or we think of
explosions in mud; but we know nothing.
All around us the trees
and the grasses light up with forgiveness,
so green and at this timeof the year healthy.
We would like to call something
out to her. Some form of cheering.
There is pain but no arrival at anything.

It Was Not Death

It was not death, for I stood up,
And all the dead lie down.
It was not night, for all the bells
Put out their tongues for noon.

It was not frost, for on my flesh
I felt siroccos crawl,
Nor fire, for just my marble feet
Could keep a chancel cool.

And yet it tasted like them all,
The figures I have seen
Set orderly for burial
Reminded me of mine,

As if my life were shaven
And fitted to a frame
And could not breathe without a key,
And 'twas like midnight, some,

When everything that ticked has stopped
And space stares all around,
Or grisly frosts, first autumn morns,
Repeal the beating ground;

But most like chaos, stopless, cool,
Without a chance, or spar,
Or even a report of land
To justify despair.

Momentos de Poesia - James Joyce

Alone

The noon's greygolden meshes make
All night a veil,
The shorelamps in the sleeping lake
Laburnum tendrils trail.

The sly reeds whisper to the night
A name-- her name-
And all my soul is a delight,
A swoon of shame.

Momentos de Poesia - Dante

Of Beauty and Duty

Two ladies to the summit of my mind
Have clomb, to hold an argument of love.
The one has wisdom with her from above,
For every noblest virtue well designed:
The other, beauty's tempting power refined
And the high charm of perfect grace approve:
And I, as my sweet Master's will doth move,
At feet of both their favors am reclined.
Beauty and Duty in my soul keep strife,
At question if the heart such course can take
And 'twixt the two ladies hold its love complete.
The fount of gentle speech yields answer meet,
That Beauty may be loved for gladness sake,
And Duty in the lofty ends of life

Momentos de Poesia - Czeslaw Milosz

Lake

Maidenly lake, fathomless lake,
Stay as you were once, overgrown with rushes,
Idling with a reflected cloud, for my sake
Whom your shore no longer touches.

Your girl was always real to me.
Her bones lie in a city by the sea.
Everything occurs too normally.
A unique love simply wears away.

Girl, hey, girl, we repose in an abyss.
The base of a skull, a rib, a pelvis,
Is it you? me? We are more than this.
No clock counts hours and years for us.

How could a creature, ephemeral, eternal,
Measure for me necessity and fate?
You are locked with me in a letter-crystal.
No matter that you're not a living maid.
